What Causes Headaches Along With Body Ache And Runny Nose?

Recently I have had the flu. Was treated with Tamaflu. 1 week-10 days later I feel even worse. Headaches, body ache, runny nose, coughing. My son had the same thing. Dr told him it was a sinus infection as a result of weakened immune system after the flu. I have no insurance. What is the best method of treatment? We do have Clarithromycin 500 mg and Doxycycline Hyclate 100 mg. I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs. Will either one of these meds be effective?

Thanks for contacting with your health concern

1. Since both of you are suffering from an upper respiratory problem [sinusitis] thus consultation with an ENT physician is essential.

PS. CT scan of the sinuses can help confirm the diagnosis.

2. As you have already taken the flu shot [high dose vaccine] as recommended by CDC, so get a second opinion regarding medical evaluation and treatment. [if any] till then:

- steam inhalation to help loosen thick mucus.
- regular nasal rinses.
- Avoid heavy, slimy and acidic food, curd, mustard oil, excess physical exertion, sunlight-dust areas, exposure to strong winds, day sleeping, smoking, potato, green leafy vegetables. Cold water/food
-Take old brown rice, soup of moong dal, black grapes, cow’s or goat milk, garlic, lukewarm water to drink, black pepper, dried ginger, honey.

PS. Since you are allergic to medicines thus it will be a good idea to take any other alternative after getting the consultation with your Doctor.
