What Causes Headaches Along With Pain And Swelling In The Neck?

Hi, my daughter is experiencing headaches, neck pain, and each side of her neck is extremely swollen, and she is aching all over and it hurts her neck when she moves her head around. she also has loss of apt. she does not have a fever. she is freaking out because she read symptoms online and it said spinal meningitis. and I told her after 24 hours she would be extremely sick and running a fever. Is there any information you could give me.

Hello,

If she had high grade fever and she can't bend (flex) her head, you should consult physician and get reports done to rule out meningitis.

However, if she had only pain on neck movements, it could either be due to improper posture while reading / working or due to cervical spondylitis.

In first scenario tablet Diclofenac + Chlorzoxazone 12 hourly will give her relief from the pain. For second scenario, consult an orthopedic surgeon to get proper treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
