Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I returned from a week in the DR April 9 with what I thought was a spider bite on my arm. It got much worse and turned out to be a streptococcal infection. I have had a tetanus shot and have been on amoxicillin for 7 days now, arm is much better, no raw spots or weeping. I have had a continuous headache for 5 days, sometimes severe, wooziness and can t remember things. Temperature started four days ago, fluctuating up and down, as high as 28.4° c, with chills the last two days. Bloodwork came back good, white count normal. What might be the cause?
The onset of fever after getting treated for strep infection for 7 days with amoxicillin is due to an acute viral infection. I'd advise to :
- keep monitoring your body temperature, and record the result
- take fever medicines
- increase fluids intake (water with oral rehydration salts and tea or juice).
Usually, it will take 7 to 10 days for virus infection to come to an end. So, try this and if no improvement, consult further with your caring doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
