What Causes Headaches, Neck Pain And Calf Pain When Diagnosed With Hypertension?
Hello My Name is Ana I am 36, I am overweight and suffer from hypertension, I take medication for it terasozin 4mg, Toprol xl 50 mg and amlodipine 2.5 mg daily. I have been experiencing mild head aches, neck pain and calf pain like muscle spasms. and two nights ago I experienced numbness on the left side of my face that woke me up. I have been feeling extremely tired and will see my cardiologist tomorrow.
Based on the history you have shared, you need to get serum electrolytes tested to confirm any derangements due to blood pressure medicines which can cause such symptoms in calves and muscle weakness. Though neurological cause should be ruled out as hypertension is a cause of cerebrovascular disease and if any focal neurological deficit is suspected on examination, brain imaging with CT or MRI may be needed.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
