Good morning and thank you for checking with the HCM nutritionist as to my thoughts. I verify your suspicions that you have a
food allergy. In cases such as this, the best way to identify allergenic foods is to keep a food diary with time, foods eaten, symptoms.
With you, the easiest thing to do is a food challenge. If you think almonds are the culprit avoid all almonds for one week. Then have a handful of almonds with applesauce and water. If the symptoms reappear, you can guarantee you have an allergy to almonds.
If it doesn't reappear, you need to start with the food diary to try to isolate the problem. The yogurt could have been spoiled, the fruit may have had pesticides, the detective hunt begins.
Food allergies are difficult to identify and takes some detective work.
Do you understand how to begin to identify your food sensitivities and/or allergies? It is useful to pair up with an Dietitian specializing in allergies for help if you cannot pin it down, but I think you will discover the culprit yourself. Then, since food allergies may get worse or go away, you may need to start watching labels for the offending food to feel your best. Respectfully, Kathy J. Shattler, MS,RDN, Adult Nutrition Specialist
