What Causes Headaches, nausea And Mood Swings With History Of Having Head Injuries?

My husband has had three different head injuries over the last 20 years, the most recent one over a year ago. They were all rather severe, and almost killed him.he has had the following symptoms especially bad over the last week: headaches, nausea, seeing bright flashes of color. he has pretty bad mood swings with paranoid tendencies.he also has what to me look like grand mol seizures, but on a smaller scale. He has memory lapses too.all this has been happening pretty regular since his last head trauma, but now its more frequent.I guess my question is what is happening to him? And what can be done about it ?

Hello,

Since your husband has a history of two head injuries in the past and one head injury recently and is experiencing symptoms of headache, nausea and mood swings, he is suggested to get clinically examined by a GP and get investigated. Leakage of the inner ear fluid may occur after a head injury and may cause symptoms like dizziness, nausea or unsteadiness.

Head injury may also result in difficulty in focusing or memory problems depending upon the impact and location of the injury. He is suggested to get Blood tests and Imaging tests (X-Ray, CT, MRI) done to detect the pathology causing him such discomforts. He should make lifestyle changes like get enough sleep, avoid caffeine or addictions if any, avoid red wine and Chinese salt (MSG). Do regular walking and stay well hydrated.

He will be treated with medicines (anti-depresssive, anti-seizures) or surgery, depending upon the pathology detected. Presently he can take acetaminophen for relieve, one SOS when required. He should avoid doing any heavy work. Relaxation therapy, therapeutic massage and counselling may be helpful. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
