What Causes Hearing Loss And Popping Sensation In The Right Ear?

I have had reduced hearing in my right ear for several months now. One day I had a build up of wax and it felt like my ear drum was blocked by wax. I have tried cleaning it out, but not with a QTip because I heard that it only pushed the wax further. Since then I have tried everything from vinegar and warm water in my ear to trying to blast it out with a makeshift syringe. Recently I was on a flight and all of sudden recovered full hearing in my right ear briefly. I figured it was due to the normal ear popping sensation that always happen. Now every time I yawn or belch my ear opens up for a split second, sometimes longer. At this time I’m not sure what to do. I haven’t been to a doctor yet, but I was trying to avoid a doctor visit as I live over seas in a developing nation and not to familiar with health care here. I was hoping there was something I could do myself to remedy my situation.

This may represent Eustachian tube dysfunction. the Eustachian tube helps to normalize ear pressure and clear fluid from the middle ear. Ear and sinus infections, allergies, smoking can all contribute to impaired function of the Eustachian tube. you could try an over the counter antihistamine if you have other allergic symptoms such as runny nose or watery eyes. Otherwise an examination to look in your ears and nose would be helpful in determining a cause.
