What Causes Hearing Loss?

I have hearing loss in my right ear. My ENT did not seem to know the cause. I work with someone who had a similar hearing loss and he has a calcified bone (the hammer) in his ear which was replaced with a prosthetic. Is there a name for this condition?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query, you have symptoms of hearing loss which could be due to autoimmune inner ear disease, very loud noise, acoustic neuroma, or physical head injury. The symptoms can also occur due to nerve impairment.

I would suggest you to consult an ENT specialist for proper examination. You should get it examined immediately to prevent further exaggeration of symptoms.

Doctor may order CT scan, blood test, examination with otoscope. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics such as amoxicillin or penicillin, anti-inflammatory medicines.

Doctor can recommend you surgery. You should use hearing aid as that is the best treatment possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
