What Causes Hearing Sounds In Ear After Cataract Surgery?
My 93 year old mother started hearing music in her ears about a week after having cataract surgery. She is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids. She went to an ENT doc who did a hearing test and then told her there is nothing he can do for her. It is driving her crazy. Any help as to the cause and treatment?
Usually there is no co-relation between the hearing sound or noise in ear and cataract surgery. At this age, the damage to ear nerves result in persistent sound which might have deteriorated by use of lidocaine, used for local anaesthesia, though there are no proven studies where it is shown to happen after surgery. In my opinion there is no co-relation between the two, its just age changes. As for the treatment , the use of correct hearing aid as tinnitus masking devise is useful
