Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have taken omeprazole (and various others) for many years. My husband has told me that recently they have linked these medications to stroke and heart attacks. I have not taken them for the last 3 days and have heart burn every time I eat or drink anything. Will this improve? They have never found any indication of damage to my esophagus or stomach so I probably never should have started them to begin with.

What Causes Heart Burn After Stopping Omeprazole?
Hello, Omeprazole is prescribed for hyperacidity and related disorders such as GERD in which heartburn is a common symptom. You have been taking omeprazole for hyperacidity related problems and so after stopping it, you started experiencing heartburn again. If you don t want to continue with omeprazole, please consult your doctor who will prescribe another acid inhibitor. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
