What Causes Heart Palpitations After Eating Certain Foods?
I am a 20 year old female, 5"4 and 125 pounds, and lately my heart has been palpetating immediately after eating certain foods. I have a heart murmur and regular dizziness and fatigue and low blood pressure. At times my heart will feel like its beating out of my chest and im not emotionally upset or exerting myself. I work out regularly. what should I do?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I would explain that your symptoms could be related to possible post prandial hypotension or cardiac arrhythmia.
For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:
- a resting ECG and a cardiac ultrasound
- fasting glucose
- complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalances.
An ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring would be needed to investigate for cardiac arrhythmia.
