What Causes Heart Palpitations While On Medication For High BP?
Hi, This is Kesavan, 32yrs old Male having High BP for last 6 months and doctor advised me to start taking ENVAS 2.5 tablet . I use to take tablets where my BP will be in control most of the time but show quite high(140-90) few time. I use to get palpitations at regular intervals (once in a month time) and my pulse rate & BP shoots up (130 +BPM/ 160/100) respectively. A month back , when I suffered from palpitation again, doctor advised me to intake PROLOMET XL 25 and am using it. Two days back , I consulted a NEURO Specialist to know the exact reason behind palpitation and he asked me to STOP taking PROLOMET XL 25 since there is a chance of IMPOTENCY !!! IS it TRUE?? Also I would like to know the exact reasons for Palpitation & the best ways to get ride of it. Please clarify ... Thanks in Advance

Promet XL 25 contains Metaprolol, a beta blocker helps in controlling blood pressure by blocking the receptors for epinephrine which constricts the blood vessels and rising the blood pressure. One of the side effects for Beta blockers is Erectile dysfunction. But the psychological cause is more than the actual. The erectile dysfunction can be corrected with other drugs. If you are not compliant with the drug, choose other antihypertensives after consulting the physician. Palpitation may be anxiety induced or due to some pathological reasons in the heart. Do ECG and ECHO to rule out cardiac cause. Yoga helps in anxiety issue.
