What Causes Heart Palpitations With Mild Sleep Apnea?

I sometimes wake at night with a rapid heart rate, no anxiety cause being obvious. 61 yr old obese post menopausal female (all the usual suspects) dont drink, don t smoke, exercise 3 times a week, recently diagnosed with mild sleep apnoea and going to try a CPAP. On metformin omeprazole and ramipril. But the rapid heart rate is recent and has got me bothered because bad sleep will make everything else worse.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I suggest you to monitor your heart rate during the day and if it's possible to do a 24-48 h Holter monitoring to see clearly your heart rate trend.
If the heart rate is high during the day when you are not sleeping you can start using beta blocker. If the heart rate is high only during night while sleeping that may come from sleep apnea and you should probably solve these with CPAP. Then the heart won't have to bother you anymore.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
