What Causes Heart Strokes Followed By Brain Bleeding Post Quadruple By-pass Surgery?
My father-in-law had quadruple by-pass surgery in June. He had a TIA in January 2015 and since June has had two strokes each one stronger than the last. His most recent resulted in a brain bleed. Is this common after by-pass surgery? I have read that he should be on a blood thinner which he isn't. Are blood thinners something we should be looking into?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... Yes blood thinner drug started after quadruple by-pass surgery may have a role in stroke due to brain haemorrhage. But strokes are not common after heart surgery or starting of blood thinners. However other factors responsible for cerebral haemorrhage should also be assessed. Alone use of blood thinners should not be responsible for stroke problem he is facing.. - Hypertension (high blood pressure) is most common risk factor - Diabetes mellitus -Cigarette smoking or Excessive alcohol consumption can also be responsible for strokes
As he is having cerebral haemorrhage, you should consult his cardiologist & blood thinners should be adjusted or changed.
Refer to your cardiologist
Hope this information helps
