What Causes Heartburn And Chest Pain After Consuming Alcohol?
When I drink alcohol my chest or heart burns for like 20 to 30 minutes, I'll be in pain. After I noticed this starting to happen, I'm never drinking again and I mean it this time, I don't want to suffer every time I want to drink. So, what does this mean when it burns around the heart and/or chest area?
The burning sensation in your chest occurs because alcohol irritates the lining of the food pipe which passes through the chest. Alcohol also irritates the mucosal lining of the stomach. Retrosternal burning is a common symptom of gastro-oesophageal irritation. Antacids, especially those with local anaesthetic action, can provide immediate relief but it will be better to avoid alcohol in future. Repetitive use of alcohol can lead to development of peptic ulcers.
Best wishes.
