Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 26 year old son experienced morn heartburn on way to work and at work with some radiating jaw pain. He went to the primary dr who measured a 100.5 fever and took two ekgs one showing a normal sinus rhythm and one short pi syndrome and borderline rhythm. Sent him home with mylanta and told him if pain gets worse go to er for cardiac enzyme blood test. They were careful because cad runs in family particularly with me. They pretty sure it wasn t a heart attack. Andy thoughts? Thanks
Your son is too young to have a heart attack but due to the family history, it is good that the doctors were very cautious and did an ECG. On the other hand, ECG is not enough to rule out a heart attack as one can have a normal ECG while he is having a heart attack. I would say that the best way to tell is to have the ECG and the heart enzymes and repeat these in a few hours to see for any change.
The symptoms can also be due to a viral infection but this is considered if other more serious conditions are ruled out.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
