What Causes Heaviness And Blockage In Ear Along With Muffled Hearing?

Hi, Last week, I had woken up with my left ear feeling heavy and blocked and it has been continuing on and off since then. I can hear out of my left ear, but everything sounds a little muffled. I have tried taking Otrivin nasal spray thrice a day for two days, and it gave me relief for one day, but the next day I woke up with the same problem. I have high blood pressure and have minor cervical spondylitis. Can anyone help?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain heaviness and blockage in ear along with muffled hearing seems to be due to Blocked Eustachian tube due to mucous or fluid accumulation in the eustachian tubes and it will lead to blocked feeling and heaviness in ear..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Otoscopy, x ray MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised to take a course of antibiotics, anti allergics, decongestants oral as well as nasal to provide relieve..
Steam inhalation can also be advised..
In case of no improvement surgical drainage of ears can be done by putting a small incision through the eardrum..
