What Causes Heaviness And Swooshing Noise In Ear?

I have had a heavy full feeling in my right ear accompanied by a constant swooshing noise for four years. It started after i had swimmers ear. I went to my doctor and they gave me drops which i was allergic to when i went back the doctor put a wick in my ear and he went so far in that i jumped...after the swimmers ear finally cleared up the symptoms above were left. I went to an ENT doctor who sent me to get some kind of scan to look for an anorism or tumor...that came back normal so he said there was nothing he could do...so i went to a second ENT who sent me to a nuero doctor bc he believed it to be veinous since it stops if i put pressure on my neck...the nuero doc said my optical nerves were healthy and looked at the scan and said there was nothing he could do...I've had TMJ since i was young and have read that that could cause the pulsatile tinnitus...however i still think it's related to my original swimmers ear...what do you think?...it's driving me crazy and I'm scared that it's something dangerous.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

The symptoms you mention in query are probably due to your TMJ problem as you also mention in query . But we can't ignore the other possibility completely .

I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon first for proper evaluation of TMJ .

Doctor may order CT scan and MRI for proper examination . TMJ problem can occur due to few reasons and correction of there causes can solve the problems . The causes can be :-

- Misalignment of teeth .

- Stress and anxiety .

- Arthritis .

- Problem related to disc present in TMJ .

Oral surgeon may refer you to orthodontist for proper alignment of teeth , may prescribe muscle relaxant and prescribe medicine to reduce stress , give night guard and anxiety .

If the problem is not related to TMJ the consult ENT specialist again to check for problem like sinusitis and Endolymphatic hydrops .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
