What Causes Heaviness In Throat After Taking Antacid Tablets?

I was having cough with sore throat for almost 1 month now, the doctor treated me with Anti-biotic Amoxycylin , it has cured it almost 90%.. but i am feeling some sort of heaviness in my throat and when i take some anta-acid , it comforts me but feeling of heaviness remains.. Please advise

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of heaviness in throat after taking antacid tablets which seems to be due to chest infection/ chronic upper respiratory tract infection. The symptoms also indicated acid reflux problem .

I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles. You should visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages and intake of outside food. In case of acid reflux only medicine is not going to work , lifestyle change will also ben useful.

So avoid eating spicy and heavy food specially at night . You should get paranasal sinus x-ray done along with throat swab test and blood tests and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should for fine needle and aspiration cytology as well.

Take proper course of antibiotics. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids. Apply mist humidifiers in room. Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for acid reflux , who may prescribe H2 blockers .
