Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Had turps surgery on May 17th 2017. Was rechecked on June 16th 2017. Doctor advised all looked good and no cancer. Bleeding had quit. On June 23rd 2017 I began bleeding very heavily and clots. Was hospitalized for 2 days and sent home with no bleeding or clots. On the 28th started bleeding again and small clots. Is this normal? Am losing a lot of blood.
I am sorry for the bleeding problems you are facing.
TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) is a type of surgical intervention used to treat enlarged prostate symptoms.
Bleeding can occur up to 6 weeks after the procedure. It can be present for longer however in small amount (as in your case with small clots). This is normal, but will take a few more weeks to stop the bleeding completely.
I understand you are afraid of losing lots of blood, but you can have a complete blood count done with measuring iron levels. If low, then, can start iron supplements. Take note that your body replaces the lost blood on its own.
All the best.
