What Causes Heavy Bleeding And Discomfort During Periods?

I'm experiencing heavy bleeding and general discomfort during my period. 99% of the time my periods are very consistent and predictable. I am having to go to the bathroom to change tampon + liner once every 45 minutes to an hour. I am 23, 5'10", active runner, and weigh 135lbs. I'm not sure if this is something I need to be concerned about or if it's a normal occurrence? I've also returned from a trip overseas about 3 weeks back.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Heavy bleeding & cramping or discomfort is a very common problem, it is known as dysmenorrhoea. Dysmenorrhea occurs less often in those who exercise regularly.
Dysmenorrhoea in you could be related to less exercise in past three weeks as you went on a overseas trip. You could take anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen & tranexamic acid. They would help to reduce the bleeding as well as discomfort.

If problem persists consult a gynaecologist
Hope this information helps
