Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Heavy Bleeding During Menstrual Cycle?
My wife has been told that she needs an ovarian biopsy. ...she has had a very large cyst removed several years ago....but has had no success with controlling heavy bleeding..her OBGYN has been using birth control to suppress her periods fot many years .....she does not take the typical week long breaks from this......she is 48....she has recently become anemic and is taking supplements for this....did have ultrasounds which failed to show any masses ....any thoughts or explanations....she was diagnosed years ago with endometriosis...
As per my clinical experience, the heavy bleeding during menstrual cycle indicates possible issues at various levels as: @ Endometriosis @ Endometrial hyperplasia @ Estrogen secreting tumor in remaining ovary @ Uterine fibroid @ Pre menopausal changes involvement
As the ultrasound report is not suggestive of cause, the need of CT scan pelvis is obvious at this point of time before the decision of ovarian biopsy which is an invasive procedure.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
