What Causes Heavy Bleeding During Periods?

Hello,

I recently completed a 10 day course of Primulot N (3x/day) which I commenced because I had abnormal bleeding that began with a particularly heavy period, and which continued five days after starting my latest birth control packet. My birth control is Norimin, and I have been on it for over five years, but I take three consecutive packets before having a period.

My GP gave me the Primulot N and told me to stop taking Norimin in the meantime, and to recommence the Norimin when the breakthrough bleeding began. Should Noriming stop the breakthrough bleeding? Or will it continue? I took it for the first time last night and my breakthrough bleeding has been much heavier than a normal period overnight and today. Yesterday it was as heavy as I would expect on the first day of my period.

Is it possible that the Norimin is causing me to bleed more heavily? Should I stop taking it until I can see a Doctor on Monday?

Thank you
