What Causes Heavy Bleeding With Clots Between Periods?

Hi I am a 44 yr old woman , I have been experiencing some unusual bleeding lately , I started spotting a week later than my period should have been due, then suddenly it got really heavy an 2 huge blood clots literally fell out of me , very scary , I continued to bleed bright red blood for about two weeks straight, light in the daytime but heavier in the mornings an evenings , I had absolutely no normal signs of cramping or terrible period pain that I m used to , finally after about 2 weeks I felt a normal cramping an period symptoms an then started bleeding again a normal period flow , my blood is however bright red still an this is highly unusual , I know I m at the pre menopause stage of my life so I m hoping it s just that but I am alittle afraid as I ve been bleeding for nearly 3 weeks straight now an I m extremely low on energy an as I said the blood is unusually bright red , no more clots tho just the two the first day , please can u help me understand what s going on ! Could this be a miscarriage?

Hello,

If you had unprotected intercourse and were not in regular contraceptive pills and neither took emergency CP within 72 hrs than you can be pregnant. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynae, get per vaginal examination done to detect any more fetal tissues or portions of placenta that may be left inside and require D and C.

Your treating doctor my do USG to detect any polyps, fibroids or endometriosis that is causing you bleeding. Bleeding may also be caused by PCOS, hormonal imbalances, etc. You are suggested to take balanced home made food rich in iron, calcium, proteins. Take veggies and fruit with whole cereals. Since you are in your menopausal stage you will experience irregular bleeding, sometimes heavy and sometimes scanty. Stay active but take adequate sleep.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
