What Causes Heavy Breathing While Sleeping In Children?

My 4 year old son had heavy breathing while sleeping. Would watch his neck as it was collapsing in. He also had mucus like puss all over his eye lashes and white foam coming from his mouth. When he would breathe you looked like bubbles being popped. I did a video of him and also his eyes were partially opened. What could this be and should I be seriously concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pus over eyelashes could be that your son has an eye infection like conjunctivitis. However, I am more concerned about the frothing you described at the mouth. I would suggest your son gets evaluated for seizures. It is possible that he is having seizures. If he has fever at present, it is possible that he is having febrile seizures which are less concerning and easier to control. If that is not the case, he should get evaluated for seizures and the possible cause so as to initiate the appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
