What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding After Starting Depo Shot?

I GOT MY FIRST DEPO SHOT ON MARCH 12TH, AND HAVE HAD A FULL ON PERIOD, SINCE THEN. IT IS HORRIBLY AGGERVATING AS THE MAIN REASON FOR CHOOSING THIS METHOD OF BC WAS DUE TO HORRIBLE PERIODS. HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT THIS TO CONTINUE? IT HAS TURNED OUT TO BE AN AMAZING BC, AS I CAN NOT HAVE SEX. I HAD PLANNED ON GETTING MY 2ND SHOT, WHEN IT IS DUE, BUT AM AFRAID, THAT WILL JUST MAKE THE PERIOPD CONTINUE. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND ALOT OF OTHER WOMEN POSTING THAT THEY HAD A, VERY LONG PERIOD AFTER THE SHOT, BUT NONE POSTED, AFTER THE FIRST ___ DAYS, IT WENT AWAY AND EVERYTING EVENED OUT. PLEASE, HELP!!!

Hi,

Depo shots are known to cause irregular periods with scanty or profuse bleeding. Mostly this side effect reduces over the time. You seem to have excessive bleeding over long period. Please try anti-inflammatory drug like Ibuprofen over the counter, after food twice a day, to give you relief. In case of no relief, you should visit your gynecologist for estrogen therapy. This would control your symptoms. You should think of changing BC method, for Depo shots don't seem to suit you.
