What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding In A 49 Year Old Woman?
Hi, I am a 49 yr old female. I haven t had my period in 6 months and yesterday I started bleeding quite heavily. Soaked through a pad in 1.5-2 hrs. It s tapered off a bit now but the blood is still bright red. I don t feel sick- no fever I don t think. I did use an over the counter pregnancy test a few months back and it was negative. Not sure what s going on.
Hi Heavy menstrual is a common complaint at consultations and could be caused by many medical conditions.Heavy menstrual bleeding after 6 month of amenorrhea could be more disturbing.Heavy menstrual bleeding in a 49 year-old could be caused by: Hormonal imbalances, dysfunction of the ovaries, uterine fibroid/pelvic masses, adenomyosis, nonhormonal intrauterine device, drugs...Other common causes like pregnancy complications can be eliminated in your case since pregnancy test was negative. With all these probable cause, i will advise you get examined by a Gynecologist.A pelvic ultrasound will help to if any organic problem. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
