Hello,
Nordette has to 2 hormones drugs. Progestin and
estrogen. It is used as oral contraceptives. That means, it prevents
pregnancy. To prevent pregnancy, it has to prevent
menstruation.
Actually, Nordette prevents the release of eggs. It also makes the menstrual cycle irregular.
If you want menstruation and pregnancy, I would like to advise you to stop Nordette and it will take some time like 1 month to restore the regular menstruation.
If you want to have regular menstruation but not pregnancy then if possible, its safer to use condoms (male).
If there is too much bleeding, please take
Tranexamic Acid 650 mg orally three times a day when needs.
I also advise some tests:
1. FSH, LH, ESTROGEN level on Day 2 of your next cycle.
2. Lower Abdomen USG including the thickness measurement of endometrium on Day 2 of your cycle.
3. Liver Function Tests
4. Thyroid Function Test (T3, T4, TSH)
Please post the results of the tests so that a doctor can follow you up. Do not worry.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
