What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding?

I am 49 year old women who until two weeks ago had normal periods, every 28 days , other then bleeding longer after slightly, I have b a very heavy period this time and now the bleeding slowed diwn to spotting and its two weeks today, I also have a fibroids inside my uterus that were detected three years ago, is this menapuenapuse or the fibroids or both?

Heavy menstrual bleeding with vaginal spotting in between can be due to fibroids.
If the cycles get irregular with abdominal pain,hot flushes,mood swings,vaginal dryness it is more likely due to menopause.

You need to visit gynaecologist.
Detailed investigation like USG abdo,blood hormone levels may be needed to rule out other causes of vaginal bleeding.
Medical treatment with danazol or low dose oral contraceptives can be started for next 3-6 months.
Surgical options like myomectomy or hysterectomy can be considered if family is complete.Second option is more suitable in this age.
