Hi I am healthy 43y/o female that runs regularly and has a well balanced diet. Through out the last few years have times when I have what seems to be a large amount of mucus In my stool. Most recently sometimes when I think I need to have a BM only huge amounts of mucus will come out. I will making an appointment with my Dr. but was just wondering what could be causing this
There are many medical conditions which can cause mucus discharge in stool. When stool has visible mucus, it can be a sign of bacterial infections, anal fissures, a bowel obstruction, or Crohn's disease. I suggest a stool test and a colonoscopy for further evaluation.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
