What Causes Heavy Nose Bleeds In A Person With Hypoglycemia?
Hello? I m worried .My sister is 16.She has hypoglecemia and we thought she was anemic.She s getting nose bleeds.Not small ones but huge ones and they are more and more frequent .Even though she took iron pills glucose taets etc.She eats pretty good.A doctor told her she needed to eat healthier or shed get diabetes type 2.Any ideas of what this is.?They re getting worse and out of no where.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Nose bleeds is called as 'epistaxis'. It has nothing to do with hypoglycemia, as you are indicating. Nose bleeds are commonly caused due to fragile blood vessels present in the mucosa of nose called as 'Little's area'. These vessels would easily bleed due to nose picking or due to nasal congestion and infections of the nose. Kindly pinch the nose tightly immediately for about 5 minutes and ask her to bend forward and breath through mouth whenever she has such bleeds acutely. This would arrest bleeding and prevents massive bleeding episodes. In case this is happening repeatedly, the fragile blood vessels can be cauterised either chemically or electrically, to prevent bleeding permanently. She could become anaemic due to repeated blood loss and can be supplemented with iron medications to overcome it. Kindly consult ENT specialist in this regard for appropriate evaluation and management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
