What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding And Abdominal Cramping?

My last period ended on May 31, 2016. I was given a Depo shot on June 8th, 2016, for the first time to treat heavy bleeding from uterine fibroids. I have had light bleeding since the time of my first shot, that would require me to waer a pantiliner. Now bleeding is heavier and I have cramping. I was supposed to have a mini tuck surgery that was cancelled due to a Hgb =8. I need the bleeding to stop immediately according to my hematologist. How can I treat this medically, with what medicine to stop the bleeding until September when I will be elgible for health insurance benefits to have an uterine ablation or laprascopic myomectomy. This has happened in June 2013 where I had an MVA due to passing out behind the wheel, and found out that my Hgb was 7.0 due to heavy bleeding from fibroids. I had an ablation in Aug 2013 no problems now fibroids returned and have problems. What medicine can I take to stop bleeding immediately for good or at least until September when I will have health insurance? I am 51 y/o, and I have a tubal ligation, since the birth of my daughter in 1996 when I had a Ceserian. So childbearing is not an issue for me.

Hello,

Since your age and the ligation issue are not in favor of pregnancy and the possibility of abortion.

The next diagnosis we think that your bleeding is caused by a fibroid. So the next step is to visit your doctor the rapidly that you can.

If you can't you should visit the emergency department if the bleeding is very heavy to do the Gyn exam, to order blood count and to make sure that you don't need any blood transfusion also to give u some drugs which stops the bleeding like Tranexamic acid.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Noor Farid, General & Family Physician
