Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding With Fleshy Tissue After A Child Birth?
On the 13th it will be one month since I had my baby, when I had her I experienced postpartum hemorrhaging. Since then I still have been bleeding bright red blood, experiencing headaches every day for a week, light headedness off and on, shakiness and hour ago I passed what looked like part of a placenta (long and meaty/fleshy looking). Should I go into the ER or should I wait for my 6 week check up to see my doctor?
Thank you for the question. I would be happy to help.
Do not wait for your 6 week visit. Based on the initial postpartum hemorrhage and now persistent bleeding, you have what we call "retained products of conception". At this point, if I am correct, you probably need an ultrasound guided D&C. The symptoms you are describing are probably related to being anemic (low blood counts). Given that you are still bleeding AND you are symptomatic, yes I think you need to be seen now.
I hope that this answers your questions!
