Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 51 years old with a normal menstrual cycle, but I am experiencing excessive bleeding this month which is very abnormal. I was diagnosed with a 4 cm fibroid 12 years ago and have only had occasional spotting since then, but I am having cramps and bleeding for 8 straight days now. Is this a symptom of menopause or something else?
Hi I think you should consult a gynecologist for complete examination. Get a thyroid profile and prolactin level and a ultrasound done to see uterus and ovaries to find out the the cause of heavy bleeding. It can be a premenopausal symptom. But if endometrial thickness is more than 4 mm, you may need an endometrial biopsy to rule out any endometrial pathology. Hope it helps.
