Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Heel Pain After Having Tendon Transfer And Calcaneal Osteotomy?
I am 3 months post op from tendon transfer and calcaneal osteotomy. Calcaneous was fixed using two screws. Post op course has been uneventful but for heel pain while weight bearing. This seems counter- productive to rehab as it hurts and swells after being on it even for short period of time. My gait is compromised as unable to put full weight on surgical side, however the opposite side (hip) is compensating and painful Surgeon sites studies that indicate 15-20% patients have the fixation screws removed at about a year post op due to pain from hardware. My question, will screw removal remove heel pain and what will the down time be? Will I be non-weight bearing again, boot, etc?
Thank you for the question.I would suggest to use cushioned inner sole on heel side. get a check x ray. if union complete then wait for consolidation. Take walking stick in opposite hand to take load off the operated side and prevent over use of opposite hip, tilting.Do minimal walk/ alternatively use elbow crutch to avoid direct weight bearing
