What Causes Hemifacial Spasms In The Eyes And Cheek?
Hi Dr I am 32 year old female, I am suffering from hemifacial since 3 month I visited a neurologist and he told me this is hemifacial spasm and nothing tell me and no any questions asked and just inject a BOTOX. I am so confused why this HSM happens to me and I was tense and angry bt only few days I m so sensitive. Dr pls answer what is treatment for permanently free from this . Right now I have only twitching eyes and cheek sometimes band weekness.
As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of facial twitching along with twitching of eye and cheek and also experiencing weakness on one side seems to be due to Hemifacial Spasms and occurs commonly due to disorders or disturbances associated with Facial Nerve that is seventh cranial nerve and supplies muscles of face.. Any compression caused by a major artery or any tumor or other causes like Viral infiltration of the nerve or traumatic injury can cause the following symptoms.. Other cause can be Trigeminal Neuralgia.. I would suggest you to consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like MRI scan, Electromyogram, Nerve conduction velocity can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.. As far as Botox injection is concerned it can be helpful to some extent but before it the actual cause of the problem and if there is nerve related issue the reason behind it has to be ruled out as it times wrong treatment can become harmful than being useful.. You can be given medication like Carbamazepine, Phenytoin while treatments like Accupunture surgical correction of compressed nerve root can be done..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
