Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Our son had full blown hernia surgery yesterday (non-laparoscopic) with general anesthesia. He has had problems in the past with moderate reflux. During the procedure, he stated to cough and the anesthesiologist immediately recognized the problem, suctioned and tubed him for the remainder of the procedure. Our question -- about two hours after the surgery, he started having the hiccups on a regular basis and the hiccups are continuing. What could be the cause of the hiccups and is this something to be concerned about? Thanks. His concerned Mother
Hiccups in the case of your son is created because of anesthesia. It happens often in case of general anesthesia. It will get relieved by itself. Muscle relaxers also can be used.
