General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Actually, Dexamethasone is a well-known cause for hiccups and is often used for joint injections. I'm still surprised it would have this effect on him because usually with joint injections, not very much of the medication gets into the system, it mostly stays in the joint. However, it seems likely that the small amount of Dexamethasone in his system is causing these hiccups.

I would expect that the hiccups do not last long, as the medication is cleared from his system. However, if they last more than 48 hours, I would recommend he be evaluated by his doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
