What Causes High ALT Level?

Hello, My ALT was 38 on my last test and was flagged as being high. Was told normal was 0-31, but on previous tests, at a different lab, that still would have been in the normal range. I don t understand why the normal range changes from lab to lab. Should I be concerned with a 38 ALT?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Reference range for all the lab is different depend on the methodology.
According to NABL standard laboratory Normal reference range of ALT is 21-72 IU/L. (UV with P5P method)
So I think it does not indicate any disease/problem.
It is significant when the rise is 5-6 fold and along with increase in bilirubin, ALP ans AST. In this condition it indicates hepatitis and liver damage.
Do not worry ALT value 38 not to be concerned.
Avoid stress, take healthy diet and do regular exercise.
Hope this may help you
