What Causes High BP And Temporary Loss Of Conscious?

Hi Doctor,My husband suffers from high blood pressure and sometimes experiences blackout s.These blackouts are quite odd; his memory laspes when they occur, I mean he is still able to speak to me directly however has no memory of the conversation after the blackout . Quite often he is aggressive towards me verbally. My question to you is what causes this? Can it be attributed to high blood pressure only? Or is it possible that it caused by a psychological disorder? Thank you,Erika

Hello,

A high blood pressure can lead to such condition known as encephalopathy or sometimes it can be due to transient ischemic attack. He needs a detailed neurological evaluation for the same. It is unlikely be due to a psychological disorder.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
