Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Was in a meeting and experienced sudden sort of tightening, not painful but had a parasympathetic response with it. Happened 2 times later over the next 1-3 hour meeting. Am 46 female with. High BP on hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily. No other health problems.
I appreciate your concern for the high BP and chest tightness.
It could be due to heart disease until proved otherwise.
Under stressful situations like attending or chairing a meeting or undue physical exercise the oxygen demand of the heart increases. In patients with suspected heart disease the oxygen may not be able reach the heart tissue properly hence some sort of chest tightness, sweating, palpitation, apprehension occur.
The high BP could be due lack of response to Hydrochlorothiazide, your BP needs to be rechecked by a physician and if it is found to be an additional drug like Valsartan should be added to control it.
But, for your main symptoms of chest tightness, sweating, palpitation and immediate ECG is what I would recommended first to rule out the heart disease. Beside you must also undergo lab tests like blood sugar, serum cholesterol, triglyceride, serum creatinine and blood urea and cardiac enzymes. Hope to have answered your query. Best regards.
