Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Okay, what causes high blood pressure in a 19 year old athlete. My son just was at the doctors and he said they mentioned his blood pressure is high. He is not over weight, works out and eats well? I am a little concerned. YYYY@YYYY
If this is the first time he has his blood pressure high, he still does not have the diagnosis of hypertension. He needs two high measurements in two different visits to have hypertension. A very common reason for high blood pressure is stress and also white coat hypertension. Thus, your child will need another measurement. You may choose to have it checked at home to avoid white coat hypertension as well.
I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
