There are many causes for high blood pressure and rapid heart rate. High blood pressure can run in families. It can be induced or made worse by eating too much salt, drinking too much caffeine and smoking. If your heart rate is only over 100 when you exercise that is normal. Pulse and blood pressure are supposed to go up when you exercise. If you continue to have high blood pressure and high pulse make sure to see your doctor and avoid salt, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, stimulants and decongestants.
Hi welcome to HCM. Elevated blood pressure in your case could be essential hypertension. This has to be carefully monitored by a baseline ecg and screening 2 dimensional echo to rule out organic heart disease. Its advisable to avoid strenuous activity.Restrict the intake of salt to less than 6 gm/day.Maintain your blood pressure below 125/80 mm of hg.Heart rate will correct spontaneously with treatment of hypertension.Drugs like beta blockers and ace inhibitors are first choice drugs to treat essential hypertension.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you.
