What Causes High Blood Pressure And High Cholesterol?

51 year old male. Does not smoke or drink. Average weight. Has high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Not taking any meds...trying to control with diet and exercise. Started feeling weak, extremely tired, lightheaded on Saturday. He slept all of Saturday and symptoms returned Sunday. Continues to have these symptoms. Had an exercise stress test a year ago July. It came back normal. Trying to decide if an ER visit is warranted or make an appointment with general physician. Heart disease runs in the family. Job is stressful and there are some stressful life events at the moment.

Hello,

Cholesterol & triglyceride can be controlled & maintained by diet & exercise.

It would be good to take medicines for blood pressure. Fluctuations in blood pressure directly affect the heart & may lead to complications.

Fatigue, weakness or lightheartedness commonly occurs due to low blood sugar level & dehydration, anxiety & stress may trigger these symptoms.

Always keep yourself well hydrated, take ORS, juice, soups or any other beverage of your choice. Maintain your sodium, potassium level.

However, such symptoms may arise due to developing arrhythmia or CAD. At such times take rest, avoid stress or any kind of physical & mental work.

Try to relax until you feel better. Get your vitals checked immediately.

You need a follow up cardiac check up done to be on the safer side as you also have a history of high cholesterol & high BP.

Take a diet that lowers the cholesterol level but does not make you weak. Take food cooked in olive oil, take whole grains, beans, peas, nuts, fish, avocados, berries, fruits, veggies. Don't stay hungry, eat.

Diet & vitals should be very carefully monitored. Maintain a healthy diet.

ER visit will help you know the vitals & aid to support your system. You may need intravenous fluids to help you recover faster.

Do visit a cardiologist to rule out CAD, get assessed & treated at the earliest. You may have to go through a repeat test of blood workouts & Imaging tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
