Hello,

Sugar levels usually decrease in a few days to weeks after increasing the dosage of an oral hypoglycemic agent.

Considering that you have been taking Prednisone, a medication which has a side effect of increased blood sugar levels, you may expect a slower decrease in blood sugar levels with the increase in metformin.

Any stressful condition to the body can also trigger an increase in blood sugar levels which includes, but not limited to surgery and infection.

I suggest to include a low sugar diet (as well as avoiding sodas) and exercise in your lifestyle to help in lowering blood sugar levels. I also suggest to avoid taking steroids due to its side effect as stated above.

With these, I would recommend a consult with an Internist or an Endocrinologist for the possible addition of another oral hypoglycemic agent to help decrease sugar levels faster.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
