Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes High Calcium Levels And Low Vitamin D Levels?
I had kidney stone surgery in August. I had a 24hr urine test which showed high calcium. I just received bloodnwork back and calcium levels were 10.9. PTH was low at 4 and vitamin D was 31 (on the lower side). I go to see an endocrinologist soon. What could cause this? All I am reading is cancer.
10.9 is not a nod to hypercalcemia, its a normal level. And even if there is hypercalcemia it can be a kidney problem, bone disease or endocrine disease & last but not the least cancer. You should see a doctor but do not necessarily think of cancer.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shah Sayeema Nissar Kirmani, General & Family Physician
