Thank you for the query.
As per the history, you are a working woman aged 37yrs, not a known diabetic, and recent recording of fasting blood sugar as 113mg%. I would like to know whether you have any other associated problems like hypertension, dyslipidemia or thyroid disorder or if you have a family history of Diabetes mellitus.
Diabetes mellitus is diagnosed by the following criteria:
Fasting blood sugar level more than or equal to 126mg%
2 hrs Post Prandial blood sugar more than 200 mg%
HbAic more than 6.5%
To establish a diagnosis of Diabetes, you need to do the above mentioned investigations. A single recording of Fasting blood sugar as 113mg%, is not Diabetes mellitus. However, it does fall in the category of 'Impaired Fasting glucose' (some physicians call it pre-diabetes), and such subjects are more prone to develop Diabetes in future. In case you experience symptoms like weakness, excessive thirst, increased urination or unexplained weight loss you would need to consult your physician for a thorough check up and further advise.
You should go for some dietary modifications, and avoid food with high glycemic index and refined carbohydrates (like fast food). A daily exercise regimen may help. In case you are overweight, weight loss will definitely be helpful. In case you cannot visit your physician, you can carry out the self monitoring of blood glucose at home (with the glucometer), and record your findings.
Hope this helps you out.
Regards,
Dr. Ayusmati Thakur
