Hi & Welcome. Ferritin is an acute phase reactant. This means that when the body experiences inflammation, ferritin levels will go up. Elevated levels of Ferritin therefore are usually due to causes such as acute or chronic inflammation, chronic alcohol consumption, liver disease, renal failure, obesity, metabolic syndrome, hyperthyroidism, or malignancy.
