Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My ferritin serum result have been consistently high 300-324 (reference range = I take a diuretic, calcium and beta blocker to control my hypertension which is now 90-1120/75-90. Thank you for any help!
Ferritin is an acute phase reactant. This means that when the body experiences inflammation, ferritin levels will go up.
Elevated levels of Ferritin therefore are usually due to causes such as acute or chronic inflammation, chronic alcohol consumption, liver disease, renal failure, obesity, metabolic syndrome, hyperthyroidism, or malignancy.
It is also elevated One example is hemochromatosis, which is when your body absorbs too much iron resulting in deposition of excess of iron in various organs of the body (hemochromatosis).
Consult a physician for proper assessment and for certain tests like CBC, ESR, thyroid function test, liver and kidney function tests, C Reactive protein, Rh factor, as they can provide more insight into the iron levels in your body.
Hope the advice given above would be useful in identifying the cause of high Ferritin level and its treatment.
Best regards.
