What Causes High Fever Along With Diarrhea And Stomach Ache?

I am 50 years old. when I was about 10 I got very sick. I had a very high temp fever over 104* bad stomache pain. I went to the hospital and had a gangrenous appendix. the doctor removed it with some intestines. ever since then I have had diarrhea at least 4-8 times per week. I am on opiates for an unrelated issue, they help but I still have a lot of stomache problems and chronic diarrhea. any fiber or salad makes it worse. I have been dealing with this for 40 years. I thought it was normal until I filled out a questionare a couple years ago.

Hi,

Diarrhea 4-8 times a week is not a normal thing in healthy people. In your case because you already had a surgery that removed some of your bowel it might be a normal finding to have loose stools because food is not completely absorbed due to less bowel compared to what is normal.

Fiber and salads will make the diarrhea worse because they do increase the movements of the bowel and decreasing the time the food stays there which causes in your case the food not to be properly absorbed followed by diarrhea.

The opiates you are taking might be helping you with the diarrhea as they slow down the bowel, it is actually a side effect of them but in your case it might be helping you with your bowel.

It is important for you to avoid very fatty and sweet food as these can also increase the bowel movement and make diarrhea worse. Coffee can have similar effect.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
