Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes High Fever And Vomiting While On Treatment For Kidney Infection?
my adult nephew was diagnosed with an acute kidney infection ~10 days ago. Got IV antibiotics in ER, on oral antibiotics ever since. He stopped vomiting for a day or two but now has a fever of 103 and is vomiting again. I feel he needs to go back for more IV antibiotics and fluids, how can I convince his parents that this is necessary.
Kidney infections are of many types, I guess you are referring to Acute Pyelonephritis. This is a disease which needs immediate attention and treatment with broad spectrum antibiotics. Recurrence of fever warrants thorough search for the source of infection which requires hospital admission. Any delay can cause irreparable damage to kidneys. You may use my suggestion to convince your friend's parents. All the best.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Vaddadi Suresh
